Miguel Altuna Students and Teachers in Madrid with Pedro Sánchez and Milagros Tolón

On 15 September, five students and a group of teachers from Miguel Altuna travelled to Madrid to take part in the event “Vocational Education and Training: Driving a Country Forward”, organised by the Government of Spain. During the event, the Government presented an investment of €234 million to strengthen Vocational Education and Training (VET).

Miguel Altuna Vocational Education and Training was once again selected, together with two other centres, from among Spain’s Centres of Excellence in Vocational Education and Training to participate in the event. Furthermore, this meeting marked the second time in the last three months that representatives of the centre have met with the President of the Government, following a meeting in Madrid in July, when a delegation from the centre met with Pedro Sánchez, accompanied on that occasion by student Denisse Guillen.

At the event on 15 September, our five students and accompanying teachers had the opportunity to present some of the projects and initiatives currently being developed at the centre.

They also had the opportunity to meet in the same room with Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government, and Milagros Tolón, Minister for Education, Vocational Education and Training and Sports, where they shared the students’ questions and concerns, as well as their experiences at the centre.

The objectives of the €234 million investment presented by the Government include strengthening the training of workers and promoting training in strategic sectors where qualified professionals are needed.

For Miguel Altuna, this has been a significant experience, allowing our students and teachers to share the work and projects they develop every day at the centre with other institutions and stakeholders, while also taking part in the dialogue about the present and future of Vocational Education and Training.
